This tutorial will walk you through the process of enabling Khmer Unicode on your Windows XP computer (if you need help installing Khmer Unicode on Windows 7 click here). First downloadΒ
Khmer Unicode Installer for Windows XP
and then run the file – when you do you should see something like the following: Now click the “Next >” button as shown in the picture. Click the “Next >” again (if a box telling you that the directory does not exist pops up, just tell it to create the directory). Now click “Exit” (it is possible the “Windows File Protection” box might pop-up before you can click “Exit”, if this occurs, go to the next step to deal with the “Windows Protection” box and then once you are done, click the “Exit” button on the Installer window. When this box pops-up click “Cancel” When this box pops-up click “Yes” Now go here and download the latest Khmer Unicode Install Program (currently it is version 1.2.5) and once it is finished downloading, run the program. When you run it you should see something like the following: Click “Next” When this box pops-up click the “Complex & kbd” button (this can take a few moments to install, so please be patient). It is possible that you will need your Windows XP cd at this time – so if you are asked for it, please insert it into your cd-rom. When the text “Complex script enabled/Keyboard layout added.” appears click the “Close” button. To finish off the installation, click the “Exit” button. Now you should see a new button in the lower right corner of your screen saying either, “EN” or “CA”. When you want to type in English, make sure “EN” is showing, and when you want to type in Khmer Unicode, make sure the “CA” is showing. To switch between the two languages, you can click on the button and select (like the picture above shows), or you can press the “Alt” key and the “shift” key which is on the right hand side of your keyboard (if you press the “shift” key that is on the left hand side of your keyboard it will not switch). Enjoy!

Hello.
about Khmer Unicode on a Windows XP or 7.
on a Windows XP or Windows 7 Quark XPress 5 or 6 won’t recognize Khmer letters,
how can it be solved?
some one says that mule-ucs will handle this problem. but how to find Khmer mule-ucs?
Hello Hyp.M,
I have heard some people have had success using Khmer Unicode with Quark XPress 8, but I don’t believe it works with either version 5 or 6.

Dear Khmer Unicode Creator!
I have a lot of problem with Khmer Unicode. How to type Khmer Unicode in all program? Is there any Solution? Please Show how! Thank In Advance!
Hello Seng,
Many programs do not yet support Khmer Unicode – we will just have to wait until more support it. If you use the latest software (windows 7, office 2010 etc.) you will have a better chance of unicode working in the programs.
Hi, does khmer unicode support office 2007?
Yes it does – quite well. But it doesn’t include a Khmer spelling checker.
I find khmer unicode (ver.2.0.1) is not working well with MS Office 2010, especially when it comes to justifying margin. That is, letters instead of words are separated to begin a new line. Anyone has any suggestion on this issue?
Please help: [email protected]
Are you using Windows 7 or Windows XP?
From my understanding and experience, using justified never works out all that well with any Khmer font – but if you send me a file and a screen shot of what you see, I can take a look – sunkhum at gmail
Hi ! I installed khmer unicode successfully. And when I opened khmer unicode watcher, I saw all checks. But I can’t read the file with khmer fonts. I saw a sign like this [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]. How to solve this problems ? Thank you !
Those symbols normally mean a non-Khmer Unicode font is being used. Can you change the font in the document to Khmer OS or another Khmer Unicode font and see if that helps?
Let me know if that works,
Nathan
i already completed the installing but i write khmer unicode in Microsoft
Power point letter is separated long distance. So please you guide me too,
thank and best regard
Hello Sarith,
What version of Power Point do you have? If you have 2007 or 2010 things should work fine. Also try using different fonts and see if that helps.
Let me know if you still have trouble,
Nathan
Somebody can help me?
i install khmer unicode on windows xp and office 2007. When i try to switch
keyboard to khmer unicode the microsoft office word is stuck.
please help to advice.
I’ve never used Windows XP and Office 2007 – it actually shouldn’t have issues as Office 2007 is fully compatible with Khmer Unicode…what version is your usp10.dll (search for it in Program Files, and make sure you are searching hidden files just in case)? It should be at least version 1.624. Back up your usp10.dll and then use the one in this extractable file from Microsoft http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/5/b/d5bc62c7-b52a-4e46-b0a1-34af41edec26/MSVOLT.exe and see if you have any more luck.

who can help me about “version usp10.dll”?
Hi there;
I installed Khmer Unicode 2.0.1version. But when I typed it’s still in English and I couldn’t find the ” EN” or ” CA” on my task bar to switch. Can anyone tell me how to solve this? Thanks!
Hi Pagna, if you are on Windows XP (I am on Windows 7, so I can’t give exact directions) Click Start, type intl.cpl in the Run box, and then press ENTER.
# On the Languages tab, click Details.
# Under Installed services, click Add.
# In the Input language list, click Catalan
# In the Keyboard layout/IME list, you should see the option for a NiDA keyboard, choose that one.
and then click OK.
See if that helps.
-Nathan
Hi Nathan;
Yes, I’m using Windows XP. I followed your instruction, but when I was on the ( # in the Keyboard layout/IME list,…..) I couldn’t find the option for a NiDA keyboard. What can I do next?
Thanks!
Pagna

Hello, you can try downloading a newer print driver for your printer. Also you can try to type in notepad and print to see if the same problem occurs. Also try using different fonts to see if that fixes the problem. Let me know if that works.
In notepad also can’t c it ( still lost legs).
Its done by changing another printer (HP laser jet 1020), if m still
using (HP Laste Jet 1005) it won’t work.
Now m finding out other software to upgrade HP 1005 !
also m trying connecting HP 1005 to another PC or Laptop that have font
Unicode for trying printing its again.
If it won’t work maybe HP Laser 1005 againts with Unicode.

Can you please tell me how I can solve this problem?
Hi Pagna,
Yes, in the case of Photoshop (at least for CS4 and above, not sure for CS3) use the fonts that start with “KH” from the khmer unicode font pack – they were designed to be used with Adobe products – https://sbbic.org/2011/01/06/download-all-khmer-unicode-fonts/
i can’t view khmer words after i installed khmer fonts : (
Hi Haklimon, If you are still having trouble, can you be a little more specific on what is going wrong? Hopefully we can get it to work.

I unzipped Unicode 2 installer but every time I try to run it, it stops half way, with the following message:
”
C:/Windows/fonts/KhmerOS.ttf
An error occurrsedwhile trying to repace the existing file:
DeleteFile failed. code 5
Access denied.
Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

I had Unicode 1.2.5 installed but foot consonants do not show properly. Also, I want to use Khmer Unicode Typing tutor but according to the website, it needs Unicode 2 to work… I certainly cannot type on it.
I’m haing the same problem while trying to intall khmer unicode. Please help!
Please, help me. I have downloaded Uni install 1.2.5 from this page, and I did follow each step showing in this page. But, it doesnt work. There’s no label CA keyboard which I can choose. And once i open any sites in khmer, still it cannot display beside image of small boxes. So please let me know how to deal with it? Thanks
Hello Sophak. You can try adding the keyboard manually by going to the Control Panel (tutorial here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177561 ). Add a Catalan keyboard and then choose the Khmer NiDA keyboard.
Also, make sure you have Khmer Unicode fonts installed: https://sbbic.org/lang/en-us/2011/03/31/download-every-known-khmer-font-all-at-once/

do u have any new version khmer unicode for Ubuntu?
I can’t use khmer unicode in Microsoft word program on Ubuntu system. Can u deal this problem for me?
There are no new versions of Khmer Unicode because it already is working. Microsoft Office Word does not work on Ubuntu – unless you use something like WINE: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Microsoft_Office
But I am still not sure if there would be full compatibility.
If you want to use Microsoft Office, it would be better to use Windows 7. And if you want to use the spelling checker and grammar checker for Khmer, use OpenOffice or LibreOffice (both of which work in Ubuntu and Windows).
it does not work …from the beginning : it’s written (2nd Β§:) “download this file” but i do not get an .exe but a .part ?!
Hello I want to ask you about khmer Unicode it have problem with my computer .my computer use window xp service pack 3 and when I print some time to letter and one more it lose some letter .like this ααααα ααΌααΈααΌαα

hi unicod khmer! when i install unicod for window xp they need some file from cd room! what can i do? i can read but can’t write
i need a Khmer Unicode on Window Xp
Dear Khmer Unicode creator!
I want to know how to install Khmer Unicode on Windows XP.
I couldn’t install it
Could you be more specific?
Can u show me how to install khmer unicode for Win xp64bit?
I would really recommend upgrading to Windows 7. I’ve never used Windows XP x64. You might be able to use the keyboard installer we created here: https://sbbic.org/2010/07/07/khmer-unicode-keyboard-64-bit-and-32-bit-windows-mac-os-installer/ but I am not sure.
I had trouble uninstalling it. It seems that uninstalling has broken unicode support in some programs, such as Winamp. Any ideas?
Were you installing or uninstalling? I would recommend Windows 7 (or very soon Windows 8 – as that will only be a $40 upgrade from Windows XP).
but after installed my computer still can’t use full with khmer unicode typing
Thanks for great tutorial….
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. It works with application inside Ms. Office. However, for browse tabs, or folder names, or tabs appear in system tray, those can’t be shown in Khmer. Do you know how to deal with this problem?
